Testing, testing, 1,2,3.

A lot of my prints are reduction prints, which means i print all the layers of ink from the same lino block and carve away lino in between each layer, eventually revealing the finished piece. It can be quite a fun way to print, as it slowly unveils the image but it does take a lot of planning to get the colours in the right order so you get the best results out of layering the inks. Some inks are more opaque than others and so colours will be affected by the layer below.


I've been planning a small print that involves some vibrant reds, oranges and greens, it will be quite an abstract print and I've been trying to work out which is the best order to do the printing to achieve the desired colour range. In my quest to find out what that is I've been creating some lovely looking test pages but now its time to decide which is the best combination....
